Quick Answers

All data is sourced from official U.S. government APIs and public records β€” Congress.gov for legislation and member data, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for campaign finance, and official state and federal sources for election information. BallotBox360 does not editorialize or alter this data.
BallotBox360 is free to use β€” all app features are free forever. Supporting the project unlocks the developer API, which lets you build apps, do research, or report on civic data programmatically. There are four contribution tiers: Keep the Lights On ($0.99/mo or $9.99/yr β€” 250 API req/mo, 1 key), Civic Supporter ($1.99/mo or $19.99/yr β€” 500 API req/mo, 1 key), Civic Engineer ($4.99/mo or $29.99/yr β€” 2,000 API req/mo, up to 5 keys, priority access, bulk exports up to 1,000 records/call), and Institutional Developer ($9.99/mo or $49.99/yr β€” 10,000 API req/mo, unlimited keys, bulk exports up to 10,000 records/call). Subscriptions auto-renew monthly or annually. On iOS, billing is through the App Store. On the web, billing is through Stripe. Cancel any time from your App Store settings or the billing portal.
On iOS: Open the App Store β†’ tap your profile icon β†’ Subscriptions β†’ BallotBox360 β†’ Cancel. On the web: billing is through Stripe β€” cancel any time from your account billing portal (Settings β†’ Manage Subscription). For any billing issues, email us directly and we'll help right away.
The BallotBox360 developer API gives you programmatic access to the same data powering the app β€” bills, members of Congress, governors, elections, and campaign finance β€” via clean versioned JSON endpoints. Every support tier includes an API key and a monthly request quota. Use it to build civic apps, power research tools, run data journalism projects, or integrate government data into your own products. Higher tiers unlock more requests per month, multiple API keys, priority access, and bulk exports (up to 10,000 records per call).
API requests beyond your monthly limit receive a 429 Too Many Requests response with a resetsAt timestamp (first day of next month). Your app features are never affected β€” the quota only applies to the developer API. To increase your limit, upgrade your support tier at any time from the Settings screen in the app. Quotas are shared across all your API keys (so a Civic Engineer's 2,000 monthly requests is a pool across all 5 keys, not 2,000 per key).
Yes. On iOS, open the App Store β†’ tap your profile icon β†’ Subscriptions β†’ BallotBox360. On the web, use the billing portal linked from Settings. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades apply at the next billing cycle. If you downgrade and have more active API keys than your new tier allows, excess keys will be deactivated at renewal.
No. BallotBox360 is built to be nonpartisan. The app presents raw government data β€” votes, bills, campaign finance, budgets β€” without editorial commentary. Party affiliation is shown only where it appears in official records (e.g., a senator's party registration). The goal is to give every citizen the same facts.
The AI is used to generate plain-English summaries of Congressional bills β€” translating dense legislative language into something any citizen can understand in 30 seconds. It does not generate opinions, predictions, or partisan analysis. AI summaries are free for all users.
Congressional data and bills update every few hours. Campaign finance data refreshes daily from FEC public records. Election data is updated as races are scheduled and results are certified. News feeds pull from official government RSS sources continuously. Developer API supporters on Civic Engineer and Institutional tiers receive priority request processing via the API.
When you first open BallotBox360, the onboarding screen lets you choose your home state. You can change it anytime from the Settings screen (gear icon in the top-right). Your state determines which representatives, bills, and election deadlines are surfaced on your My Profile tab.
Since all data comes directly from government sources, most discrepancies reflect the source data. That said, if something looks wrong β€” a name, figure, or date β€” please email us at contact@ballotbox360.com with the details and we'll investigate immediately.
BallotBox360 collects only what's necessary to deliver a personalized experience β€” your home state preference and, if you create an account, your email. We do not sell data, we do not collect party affiliation, and we do not track political views. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
