Los Angeles Mayor 2026
Los Angeles mayoral election for the city's 4-year term. Incumbent Karen Bass, the first woman elected mayor of LA, faces a competitive field as the city grapples with homelessness, housing costs, and public safety concerns. Rick Caruso, who narrowly lost in 2022, has signaled interest in a rematch.
Karen Bass is the 43rd Mayor of Los Angeles and the first woman to hold the office. A former Congresswoman and Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, she has prioritized addressing the homelessness crisis through her Inside Safe initiative and has overseen the city's response to the 2025 wildfires.
Rick Caruso is a billionaire real estate developer and former LAPD commissioner who narrowly lost the 2022 mayoral race to Karen Bass. He spent over $100 million on that campaign and registered as a Democrat before re-registering as a Republican. He is widely expected to challenge Bass in 2026.
